On Thursday, we visited the Vicksburg Civil War Park. It was raining and hazy but we had a good time!
The park (fortunately, due to the weather) is a drive through park. You can stop and take pictures and walk if you would like but most everything is easily visible from the car.

The park is set up so that you can visualize each side's position.

We saw these turkeys several times!

Also on display is the USS Cairo, an ironclad gunboat that was sunk in the Yazoo River in 1862 and was raised in the 1960's. There are lots of artifacts inside the museum that were gathered from the boat.

Posing with the bell from the Cairo.

There are more that 16,000 graves inside the park. (The Confederate soldiers are buried at another cemetery in town--it isn't part of the park.)

Definitely a very good field trip!!

hey, I love this. Field trips are a beautiful part of homeschooling. You can take your time and look and edit the experience as you go. Harder to do that with a whole big group of folks. You are shaping the adult Gracen will be as you craft this homeschool journey...and I think you are doing a wonderful job. "Do not grow weary in well-doing" is a verse that's meant a lot to me lately. Love you.
What a great field trip!
