Advent

Advent, that anticipatory season that provides solace in the midst of busyness, is here.

This year we will be using our family Advent wreath. In years past, we have done the Jesse Tree and, actually, will probably incorporate some of that into Advent.

Gracen is excited about a new Advent calendar. I am going to include a Christmas "something" at least a few times a week for her to do. I would say every day, but I know the reality! I got some good ideas from here (which has become a new favorite place to visit).

If you celebrate Advent, I would love to hear how your family does it!

"Then a shoot will spring from the stem of Jesse,
And a branch from his roots will bear fruit.
The Spirit of the Lord will rest on Him,
The spirit of wisdom and understanding,
The spirit of counsel and strength,
The spirit of knowledge and the fear of the Lord."
Isaiah 11:1-2

We use the book Family Celebrations by Ann Hibbard. We use the felt advent calendar that it suggest that you make. The calendar is a tree and the daily ornaments you hang correspond to the story you read that night. We light a candle on the advent wreath, sing Christmas songs and say the Christ section of the Nicene Creed. We have other various advent calendars that the kiddos do daily for fun. I LOVE doing advent and I'm so excited that it has started.
