It Was A Monday

Yesterday, I made another trip to "the big city" for more adjustments on my artificial leg.

Due to poor planning on my part, Gracen had to get up extra early and go with me.

So, armed with an "I Love Lucy" DVD, she settled in the back seat for the hour's drive. Can't be without Lucy very long, don't ya know! She also brought school work for the wait inside the office.
I'm sure the other patients loved hearing Latin chants!!

Pretty severe adjustments were made to my leg to try to relieve the area of pressure that has been causing the problems. I left thinking surely this would help.

Gracen had been rallying for a trip to the pet store. She wanted to get hermit crabs to replace ones that had died last year. I secretly hoped that I could talk her out of it.

We had lunch at a wonderful little place. It did my mother's heart good that Gracen told me how me how much she enjoyed having a special girls' lunch out.

On to the pet store. Fortunately, Gracen saw an extension for her hamster cage that she liked better than the hermit crabs (though I'm sure the hermit crab plea will come back around). She picked the extension set on the right--the extra wheel gives both Merry and Pippen a wheel and, hopefully, will lessen the hamster fights.

After walking around a bit, I knew that the adjustments we had made weren't enough. So we went back to the leg place. (And, I patted myself on the back for not getting us hopelessly lost!)

Most all of the adjustment options have been exhausted. We will begin again and the entire top part of the leg will be made again. Unfortunately, there are no guarantees that this will solve the problem. I am hopeful that it will and grateful beyond words that this is being done because insurance will probably not cover the expense of this. By making the socket and frame (for a picture, go here) again, there is opportunity to build in some modifications that may relieve some pressure and, hopefully, get me back walking!

This was not what I wanted to happen because in many ways the leg fits great. There is one area that has consistently given problems. Medication has helped the skin heal up some and stop some of the pain and adjustments to the leg have helped some but nothing has helped enough to get me off crutches for very long.

After a very long day--and much Lucy--we finally got home. The dogs (and the kid) were fed, the hamster cage extension put on. Those hamsters now have the equivalent of a McMansion!

And all the critters slept snug in their beds...

Praying that the issues with your extension will be cared for quickly! I'm so sorry you have had to endure the pain over the past months.

I had never heard of that place that you and Gracen ate at! It sounds wonderful....the girls and I will have to check it out one day soon! ;-)
