I Should Have Seen It Coming

When Gracen was little, one of her favorite books was There is a Duck In My Closet. Another favorite, whose title I can't remember, gave personality traits to animals. Her favorite was a book which had a character named Delilah the Demanding Duck.

Maybe you remember the hardware store that had bunches of chicks, ducklings, and rabbits just in time to tempt children for Easter. (When I was young, the place to go was Cantley's Feed and Seed--sometimes there were dyed chicks and rabbits.) I think every parent that has been conned talked into buying one of those critters probably thinks (maybe hopes) that it won't last very long!

While we were visiting my parents last week, my mom bought Gracen and Jordyn each a duck. Jordyn's was a pitiful looking little yellow duck who obviously had something wrong with its eye. She named it Sun. It was cute and we almost willed it to live that first night! Gracen's is the little black duck pictured--its name is Puff.

My parents have a pond and plenty of room for ducks such as Sun and Puff to roam. However, that would mean that Gracen wouldn't be able to see Puff grow. So, in yet another moment of parental insanity, I agreed to bring Puff home with us. (My dear sweet husband asked only once what I was thinking and then began looking on the Internet for duck information!)

Yes, that means that I drove 6 hours with a duck in a Rubbermaid container in the back of my car. And yes, for those who are counting, we now have 2 dogs, 2 hamsters, and a duck--and most certainly a happy kid.

We should really move to a farm and change our name to MacDonald!

*For any city officials, Puff will soon have a new home at a farm and will NOT be staying with us!*
