For My Parents

Forty five years ago today, a very young man and an even younger woman stood in a small church in Huttig, Arkansas and pledged their lives to each other before God, friends, and family.

They drove off in a car that had been over-decorated for the occasion, complete with sardines on the engine manifold! They drove off to start a life together.

Those first few married years were lived out in a tiny apartment with the young man working shift work. They eventually built a house and welcomed one child that screamed through many nights after the young man had worked 16 hour days.

They welcomed another child years later after suffering the miscarriages of precious children. This child didn't scream at night but made up for it later! (Sorry, Niki!)

They made it through lean financial times, cancer of one child, illnesses and care giving of aged parents.

In so many ways, this young couple grew up together. They held on to each other but more importantly to their faith in the One who had brought them together.

Thank you, Mom and Dad, for 45 years of showing us honesty, love, and faithfulness.

Happy Anniversary!
