On the tenth of each month, Meredith hosts 10 on the 10th. (Meredith and I actually attended Ouachita Baptist University at the same time though we didn't really know each other--small world!)
This is my first time to participate because I usually remember it on about the 12th! Anyway, this 10th was easy to remember because it was my Grandma's birthday. So it seemed fitting to use this "10" to honor and remember her.
I tried to think of a title for this list but didn't have much luck. Some are things I remember about her, appreciate about her, or learned from her. Here goes...
1) When she got really tickled, she had this laugh. An indescribable, infectious laugh.
2) One of my favorite memories is sitting on the front porch with her. She would sit in her rocker and make up a song for my cousin and me. The song was always about a little bird but was never, ever the same.
3) When I think of Grandma, the first thing that comes to mind is that her hands were always busy. She crocheted, quilted (oh, how I wish I had paid more attention to those lessons), made Christmas ornaments every year for the grandchildren. I love hanging those ornaments each year.
4) She had style--a quiet, classic, understated style. She was always "put together".
5) I am so thankful for the encouragement she gave me. She was with me during a particularly frightening time. She never said "you should have done better, tried harder, etc. (though she could have and been totally right). She simply encouraged me to take the next step. Having her there made it easier.
6) She loved having her family together. Anytime was a good time. Those memories are precious.
7) Toward the end of her life, she longed for Heaven. Some of it was because her body was giving out and she was tired but I truly believe that deep down she knew that this wasn't home and she longed for home.
8) She took her time. Sometimes perhaps too much! But to me that fact meant that she had time to teach, listen, love, talk, enjoy.
9) She loved good books. Many of the books that Gracen enjoys on a regular basis are gifts from her.
10) Together, she and my grandfather left a legacy of a nearly 50 year marriage, 4 children, 10 grandchildren, and 12 great grandchildren (so far!).
Thank you, Grandma, for everything.

That was so sweet, Dana. I had a grandmother like that too. She died the summer before my 8th grade year and I was devastated. I'm thankful for the treasury of memories I have of her though, and it sounds like you have wonderful memories too!
SO glad you linked up!
Meredith
Hey, I fixed your link on my linky. It was going to an older post of yours. Hope you don't mind!
#4 - My grandmother was ALWAYS perfectly dressed and made up when she walked out the door. She never slouched, and I don't think I ever saw her in a t-shirt.
I'm amazed we're related.
Thanks, Meredith!
Susan,
I am continually amazed that my grandmother and I are related for the very same reason! My favorite thing in the world is a comfy t-shirt.
I love that you did this about your Grandmother. It made me remember so many things about my own,and how I miss her....but am so thankful for having her in my life!
Blessings to you.
